1066 Battle of Hastings Private Guided Tours

Relive 1066 and the momentous events that shaped British History

1066 tours - Pevensey Castle

Private guided 1066 Pevensey, Battle and Battlefield tours led by local historian and storyteller Heather Wheeler

1066 was a year full of tension, drama and bloodshed. During that year England had four kings, was invaded twice and fought three major battles.

Our three available tours bring the story of 1066 and the Norman Conquest to life.

Our Pevensey tour visits the site where William of Normandy landed, the Norman castle at Pevensey and follows part of the route taken by the Norman soldiers as they marched to Hastings. It also includes visits to St Nicolas’ Church (built 1215) and St Mary’s Church (built 1080).

The Battle Tour includes viewing the place where Harold’s army camped the night before the battle, a visit to St Mary’s Church (built 1115), the 1066 Battlefield site and the Abbey ruins. This tour also includes a full explanation of the background to the conflict from 978 – 1066 using maps, diagrams and illustrations.

Our Pevensey, Battle & Battlefield Tour combines the Pevensey and Battle Tours above.
